Backwards

Sat opposite my usual seats tonight and likewise the eagles played opposite what they are capable of. It was not fun at all.

Strange Mail

Saw this in the outbox today. I know it's a common name but when you know a person and their name pops up somewhere else it catches your attention.

Pinnacle Books

Coming up with a top 5 books is one thing, but to pick out the books that stand out at certain points in your life as you have aged and grown up is another.

What I realized after having a discussion of the books that stand out along the way is that since the end of high school there is almost nothing that stands out. Maybe it's typical that in college people read less, but I was not happy with this realization. I had a lofty goal a few months ago to read on my train rides. And then Netflix for the iPhone came out. Since then, besides comics, I have failed at my goal.

Cleaning out our basement last week led to discovering a box of things my sister had brought home from school including The Lord Of The Flies. So, movies have been put on hold and I am back to reading. Let's hope round two is more successful.

Taking A Later Train

Today I took a later train and not by choice.  It wasn't that I got to the station too late.  What happened was, November ended.  What I did not think about was that I would need to pick up my new SEPTA pass from the office building across from mine for the month of December. I didn't realize this until I was walking out of my building.

Not having enough time to do both, and seeing no reason to waste money on a single ride I took my time getting my pass and then spending some time in the city.  I had a half an hour until the next train would be in the station.  While that does not seem like a long time, it was a really freeing 30 minutes.

Typically, at the end of the day, I make a mad dash from my office to the train.  Why? Because despite knowing what time my train leaves, as it is the same time 5 days a week, I never pack up until I should be leaving.  This stressful run-walk with my bags, in my peacoat, is all to make sure I don't get stuck in the city for an extra 30 minutes.  Why? Not for any reason other than the general desire one feels to just be home once the day ends.  Funny thing is,  I find on the days where I have something to do after work, while the lead up to that prolonging of the day has me in a frustrating mood, at the end of that day I am in a better mood.

So today, with that extra time, rather than getting flustered that my day just added 30 minutes to it before reaching my house, I wandered over to the Christmas Village and checked out all of the new little wooden buildings.  I took some pictures on my phone, and made a few mental notes of places to come back to for coffee or treats or a possible ornament for the tree.  I got to the track 5 minutes early, and got home stress free. What did I miss out on by not getting home the second I could? Nothing.

Lesson learned.
