How To Sum Up The Day

Today I was productive. I had a brief lapse where I considered not going through with it, but it passed and I am glad it did. I was able to get into the city, even on little sleep, and have an excellent breakfast at the Tick Tock Diner. I ordered the Captain Crunch French Toast. Never heard of such a thing, but it was great. After leaving Warren at 10 am, I headed west to the water and walked south along the path for awhile. Eventually I headed back north and made it to 42nd and 8th in just enough time to catch an early morning movie. Because of the lack of sleep and such I decided against Oscar nominated performance movies like An Education and A Single Man, seeing The Crazies instead for the adrenaline rush. The movie wasn't reinventing the wheel, but it wasn't attempting to, either, and I appreciated it a lot. I was actually surprised at the violence/gore in the movie. It, other than some blood spatter from gun shots, was not nearly as gory as most films of the genre. This is not to say it was dull. On the contrary, the movie was well paced in it's tension.

Anyway, from there I bought a book, called Lowboy, about a 16-year-old paranoid schizophrenic boy. I spent some time in the Times Square pedestrian zones reading it before heading to Jersey for some eats, malls (it's what they do best), Lost, and Cranium.

Tomorrow I plan to be outside but less mobile. Trying to get some more quality time in the sun and reading so I think I might head to Battery Park and sit for awhile, and read some more of this new book.

Picture today is a summary of the day. I took many pictures and most, if not all, were better quality, but this picture sums up what was most important about today, and what made it possible. (Note: no worries - this is actually just the sun, not an asteroid heading towards earth)

strange connections

do you ever feel like you know someone you've never met? not in that - oh i just bumped into you - have we met before - cheesy rom/com setup. what i'm talking about is that odd personal connection people sometimes get with someone they dont know personally at all. most of the time it is with a celebrity - someone who you have watched on a show, or in a movie, in interviews - maybe a singer who just seems like you could grab a drink and be around as if you've always been friends?

i just find it so interesting how, sometimes, it becomes to easy to feel connected with someone whether it be in the situation above or in some other way.

*interrupted*

just got distracted by our front door which is rattling. i guess the downstairs door was open from people coming in and the change in pressure or perhaps 17 mph wind was causing it to vibrate but from my bedroom it sounded like someone was trying to break it. minor heart attack. not to mention i did a standard horror movie boneheaded move - instead of avoiding, escaping, etc guess what i did. yep - i went to check on it...'hmm what is that weird sound - i think i will check it out, alone'

seasons greetings

while that is typically associated with one specific holiday/time of the year it is not barred from being applied elsewhere. as such - i love Halloween and today i am really in the halloween mood/mind set and so i am adopting said phrase to apply to the fall/halloween season.

i need a pumpkin

started compiling a list of must-watch movies for this month. after last night's film - Trick 'r Treat i started reflecting on how little or few horror movies actually have anything to do with Halloween. There is the obvious Halloween franchise and last nights movie and then Sleepy Hollow. But for the most part horror movies have nothing to with this holiday. This was slightly disappointing to focus on because after last night I am craving more films that are about or take place on Halloween. Anyway - i started compiling a list including the 3 i listed above and then, since the list of Halloween related films (at least ones i know of) ends there I started including classics and other ones i think would just fit the mood. anyway here is my list:

i left movies i havent seen like poltergeist, rosemary's baby, and the evil dead films because i dont know if i would include them having not seen them.

so these are the movies i will be watching between now and october 31st.
