Chasing A Fire

Anyone who has ever worked a 9-5 day for a week or more knows the deadness you feel when you get home and sit down on the couch. I can now understand why my parents always made a big deal about wishing they knew we needed something, whether it be milk, or whatever, before they got home from work. It is quite impressive how difficult it becomes to run the smallest and quickest of errands once you walk in the door and sit down.

I got home tonight laid on the floor and was greeted by my dog to be told - 'Oh! why don't you run down the to the dry cleaners and pick up the dry cleaning. ill get the slip.' Now, I am only home a short time and in that time I am not asked to do very much to help my family out so in essence I have no room to complain or say no. In addition, all of the clothes that were ready at the dry cleaners were mine, paid for by my parents. Reluctantly I pulled myself from the floor which felt, in that split second, more comfortable than my own bed, and headed back out the door. And boy was I lucky. I had to pull over and put my flashers on to capture it but the people of my part of the world were treated to a special site if they were looking up around 5:20 pm.

I only wish I had my digital camera to capture it - hopefully my camera phone does it enough justice.

Movie Week: Three for Three

I completed my movie goal. I will be honest, I really thought it was all just talk and I'd only end up seeing Avatar (which I had purchased tickets for in advance - sealing that one as a definite).

I still have a few films that I have recently purchased that I want to get to in the next few days before making my year end list(s). I feel as though there are movies I'd like to include that when compared with other genres/styles they might get bumped so I might do like a top 3 or 4 of a few major genres. This then gets complicated when you try to classify certain movies.

I also am going to do a top trailers. It's an amazing thing - the movie trailer. It can convince you of a film you were anticipating or reafirm your disinterest in a clunker. But what is really magical is when a trailer can cement your interest in a movie that you were anywhere from unsure or apprehensive to actively avoiding it. These trailers - the right cuts and shots mixed with the right music can sometimes outshine the final product of the movie, or in other cases totally underrepresent the film (State of Play). I got the idea from SlashFilm and will be posting 3-5 trailers for 2009 as well.

I think the best way to do these lists is to spread them out, so in the next day or two I am going to post my Best of 09 list for music.

I have some thoughts about the past year or decade as I have noticed some people are writing about. I have not decided if I will write one of these as it could get super long and be super tedious, but we shall see. For now let's say that the past decade was almost half my life and spanned the latter years of my grade school career to reaching adulthood and being on the verge of graduating college. A lot has happened both to me, around me, and in the world and it has been interesting. That said - on the whole 2009 was underwhelming as a year. Here is hoping the new decade kicks off with a great year. It will definitely be interesting.

real quick

in addition to my blog post i wanted to post up two links. the first is a movie trailer. the second is a story i came across through someone's twitter.

the trailer is the movie that has been in the works for almost 4 years now by the members of angels and airwaves. you may or may not know or like them but check out the trailer. the general plot is that an astronaut becomes cut off from earth and is alone on a space station floating around (a la Space Oddity). what follows is the astronauts hallcinations or attempts at experiencing life from his claustrophobic setting. it is beautifully shot, and whether it works or not - the visuals are incredible.

the second is an entry posted on Reddit. the entry is written by an individual who had known the man who would go on to be known as the DC sniper aka John Muhammad. The writer reflects on knowing the man as John Allen Williams and what his experience was like.
